Foxborough Supercross wrap up
The entire series had a week off after round twelve in St. Louis and the 250 East group had a longer break of 3 race weekends. Everyone is feeling rested and energized for the weekend and only the weather could put a damper on that. There was rain in the forecast and it did come down on Thursday and Friday but only saw a few sprinkles late in the 450 main event. The track crew did a great job with the dirt and it ended up being a dry and challenging event.
250 Heat 1
The gate drops and we see factory Honda ryder Chance Hymas grab the holeshot with Hammaker in second and Deegan in third. Cameron McAdoo did not get a great start and worked his way into fourth behind Deegan with around 1:30 left in the heat 1 race. Hymas continues to look strong running out front in the lead. Deegan goes inside in the sand section and makes the pass on Hammaker in the next section for second place with around a minute left in the race. Deegan was starting to pressure Hymas for the lead but spun out and stalled the bike. He had a hard time starting the bike at the end of the sand section and fell back to fifth place. Late in the heat McAdoo caught Hymas and began pressuring him on the final lap, but Hymas was able to hold on for his first SX heat win.
250 heat 2
The group of riders in heat two line up and Anstie gets a good jump and reaches the white stripe first for the holeshot. Shortly into the race, we saw Coty Schock make the pass for second place and settle into the position. At the halfway point of the race, we see the Max in first place followed by Coty and then rookie Daxton Bennick. The rookie Case Cochran who just moved up from SX Futures this week is running in fifth place. Bennick is pressuring Schock for second place only to allow Vialle to slip by Bennick for third place. It looks like that engine work and practice in the off weeks has paid off for Ansite as he finally got the start that has been missing for him this season.
450 Heat 1
Eli gets a huge jump off the start and nabs the holeshot with Justin Cooper creeping up close to him partway through the first lap. The track has shaped up really well at this point and is even a bit dry and slippery in a few places that were hardpacked. Roczen did not get a good start and was running in seventh with around four minutes left in the moto. With three minutes left in the moto, Eli is still running up front and his lead was just shy of two seconds. Hunter Lawrence was pressuring McElrath for third place and was able to get the pass around the 2:24 left in the moto point. Justin Cooper was still running in second when he nose picks a jump in a rhythm second that sent him flying off the bike and landing on the side of the track. He landed on his elbow and hip area, he did get up and walk but was not able to complete the moto. With a minute left in the moto we see Hunter running in second and Barcia just behind him in third. Ken has moved up to fourth place and Eli has extended his lead to around seven seconds. As a note all three of the factory Suzuki athletes are in the top nine and will advance to the main. On the final lap we saw Ken get past Barcia for third place.
450 Heat 2
In the second heat race, we saw Webb grab the holeshot with Anderson and Jett close by fighting for the position early. Anderson settles into second and Jett for third place until he gets the pass on Anderson for second and shortly after Sexton passes Anderson also to move into third place around the 4:40 min mark. At this point in the race, Jett is all over Webb and this is an excellent race so far. Webb has been holding off Jett and at times is able to stretch his lead out a bit with a bit of yoyo’ing going on. With about a minute and a half left in the moto, Jett has closed back up to Webb and starting to show him a wheel in a few corners. He ends up running Cooper high in a corner for the pass and blazes away from him in the whoops with a lap and a half left. Chase continues to ride a strong race in third place.
Futures race
The futures class is missing Casey this weekend as he has earned enough points and is making his pro debut this weekend. Drew Adams grabs the holeshot with Towers just behind him and Fauser running in third place off the start. With around six minutes left in the moto we still see Adams in first place with over a four-second lead over Tower. Late in the moto with around three minutes left, Adams has extended his lead to eight seconds. We saw Davies on the move making two passes in one lap to get him into fourth place. Davies continues his pace and is able to make the move into third with around forty seconds left in the moto. It does not last long as Fauser comes back and cuts off his front wheel causing a top over and getting third place back and sending Davies back to fifth place. The race ends with Adams grabbing his third SX Futures will in a row and doing so with an impressive twelve-second lead.
250 Main
Off the start we still Vialle and Deegan battling for the holeshot with Deegan ending up grabbing it. Just behind them is Hammacker in third and McAdoo in fourth. Not much later we see Cameron make the pass into third place and looking to already have Vialle in his sights in second place. Deegan has a second and a half lead and Hammaker goes down in the whoops sending him back to 21st place. With around 12 mins left we continue to see Cameron closing in on Tom and successfully making the pass into second place soon after with a clean pass in a corner. After his crash, Hammaker has pulled off and heads back to the pits. The lead for Deegan has grown to three seconds with around nine minutes left in the main event. At the halfway point in the race, the lead has built to four seconds now for Deegan. Pierce Brown is having a good ride in fourth place with Anstie trying to pressure him only to bobble in a rhythm second and lose the pace. Haiden ends up going wire to wire for the race win and a strong showing that he needed to get back into the points fight.
450 Main
The tension was high in the 450 main and when the gate drops it does not disappoint as we saw Webb grab the holeshot with Ken right behind him and pressuring quickly as he runs a crazy pace in the first few laps. Anderson was running in third place and Sexton in fourth. Tomac did not get a good start and slips out in a corner sending him back to eleventh place and Jett was running in twelfth. Webb was able to fend off the early race charges from Ken as they both settled in. Around the 15-minute mark we see Eli and Jett working their way up through traffic into ninth and tenth spots and a light rain has started to fall. Chase has caught and starting to pressure Ken for second place. We continue to see Eli and Jett work their way up, running in 6th and 8th place around the 10:30 minute of the main event. Chase continues to pressure Ken but can’t seem to find a place to get a pass done safely. At the eight-minute left point, Jett passes Eli for 5th place. Webb has settled in at the 6-minute left mark with a two-and-a-half-second lead. The battle between Chase and Ken continues even seeing them side by side at one point. After more pressure and nearly going off the track, Chase was able to get past Ken on one of the flat slick areas on the track. Chase has work to do before catching Webb with a 1.4 second gap with just 3 minutes and a lap left in the main event. Just a minute later Chase has found the back of Webb and is about ready to start pressuring him. If Webb can hold the lead and with Jett running in fifth place the season points would now be tied. On the last lap, the top three were running very close to each other and Jett was working on passing Anderson for fourth place. Webb was able to run wire to wire for the win and Anderson fights Jett off and take fourth place in the final corner.
