Indy Supercross triple crown did not disappoint

The Indy Supercross round is a popular round on the series and its unique for its passionate midwest fanbase and rutty dirt. The tracks here are well known for the tacky dirt that provides great tracking and famous for deep ruts. These conditions produce good racing and are usually a bit more unique on other years that have not had all the rain thats produced similar results in other rounds in 2024. Also stack on the fact that this year it was also a triple crown race which fans seem to dig and the athletes feel very spilt on how they feel about the format. The attendance today for the Indy round was 62,000 fans which was a new attendance record.

On the injury report list we saw Hunter Lawrence was returning this weekend from his fractured scapula and Coty Schock was going to try and give it a go. Coty did end up racing in the mains and provided he is a savage and maybe partner terminator at this point. He had collarbone surgery on Monday to have the bone plated and was racing on Saturday just five days post surgery.

KTM Juniors

The KTM Juniors program is a fun part of most of the rounds of the series and gives a chance for the fans to get a glimpse at some of the athletes that may be racing in supercross one day. It’s also an amazing experience for the young athletes and their families to get to be a part of the show of Supercross racing. The KTM family provides them with bikes and throughout the day they are included in multiple experiences that includes practice rounds, a main moto, meeting KTM athletes, an autograph session and many other exciting things for these young future stars.

250 Class

The 250 east class has been a roller coaster on entertainment so far this season. The first couple of rounds were very up and down for different riders while the field tried to stabilize and figure out who could bring consistency to their performances. In qualifying we saw Anstie top the charts, followed by Vialle, Brown and Hymas.

Entering the weekend we were curious if Vialle could continue to build on the momentum he has gathered over the last three rounds. He had a bit of a slow start with a fourth in moto one, but built each moto and finished the night with a first place finish in moto three for a second overall. Deegan start off strong with a second and first in the first two motos, but a sixth in the third was just enough to keep him on the overall podium for third. McAdoo started off strong with a 1-2-3 for the even in the motos and could safely manage his risk in the third moto knowing a third place was enough to keep him place for the overall win.

This was the first overall win for Cameron this year as he has strung together a bunch of second place finishes. The success of the weekend was enough to boost McAdoo to the championship points leader with a two point lead over Vialle in second and eleven points over Brown in third. If these two continue the momentum the east coast championship run could easily narrow down to Tom and Cameron quickly.

250 Results (Moto Results)

  1. Cameron McAdoo (1,2,3)

  2. Tom Vialle (4,3,1)

  3. Haiden Deegan (2,1,6)

450 Class

As entertaining as the racing was in the 250 class, this seemed to be the weekend that it all came together for many of the 450 riders. In past weekends we saw some have success while others were slightly off the pace. The qualifying sessions were basically a big game of who could top who was currently on top at that moment. There was a group of 7-10 450 riders that just played leap from for most of the qualifying sessions until time ran out. Just when you though someone put up a time that would stand another rider or two would jump right above them. The top four of Jett, Eli, Cooper and Ken were all just a tenth of a second or less off from fourth to first.

In the main event motos we saw Ken grab two of the three holeshots with Jett getting the other. Then the only athletes to lead laps was Ken and Jett. The top three finishers were nearly identical for all three motos had it not for a late moto three pass of Ken by Chase to toggle the results in just that one result. The overal podium mirrored the results of the first to motos and provided some great racing.

There was some complaints and concern about the track desgn and if it would make for any good passing opportunities or just be one lined. The racing was fast and exciting and even if it was harder to pass on the top 8 or so in each moto did not gap out that far and there were not really any circumstances where someone was stuck behind someone not being able to pass them. We saw Jett follow Ken for the first half or so of two of the motos before he waited for Ken to falter a little or just tire out before he decided to make his move for the lead. When he did Jett did not pull a big gap on Ken and in all three motos we saw Ken close the gap but never get close enough to be able to make a move.

450 Results (Moto Results)

  1. Jett Lawrence (1,1,1)

  2. Ken Roczen (2,2,3)

  3. Chase Sexton (3,3,2)

Midwest Rider Updates

I gotta say this season has felt pretty strong for midwest riders in Supercross. We don’t have the historical stats to prove either way but the list of athletes that made it into the night show is impressive for locals. Granted most of these athletes most likely live some where in the south or in California so they can ride all year round. But these athletes probably did not see a Supercross track till they were well into their big bike days.
