Supercross Arizona facts heading into Glendale 2024

Supercross racing in Arizona dates back to 1996 when the first race was held in Sun Devil Stadium. That year Rick Johnson won the 450 class on a Honda and clinched his first 450SX title. The stadium hosted racing for 5 years and then racing moved in 1999 to Chase Field. Racing remained in Chase Field for 17 years in a row. That first year Jeremy McGrath won the inaugural race there and went on to win his sixth SX Championship that year.

A number of 450 stars earned their first premier class wins in Arizona. We saw Ryan Dungey (2010), Justin Barcia (2013), Eli Tomac (2015) win at Chase Field and Blake Baggett (2019) at State Farm Stadium. A few of the current 450 athletes also got a first win in Arizona when in the 250 class that included Cooper Webb (2015) and Christian Craig (2016).

250 Manufacturer Wins 250 Racer Most Wins 450 Manufacturer Wins 450 Racer Most Wins
Kawasaki (11) James Stewart (2) Kawasaki (9) Eli Tomac (5)
Honda (7) Jake Weimer (2) Honda (8) Ricky Carmichael (4)
Yamaha (6) Nathan Ramsey (2) Yamaha (6) James Stewart (4)
Suzuki (3) Suzuki (4) Ryan Dungey (2)
KTM (2) KTM (2) Ken Roczen (2)

The state has been an important part of Supercross history that spanned several decades and three venues. Last year we saw Jett Lawrence win the 250 class and Eli Tomac take the 450 class. Its obvious we will see a new winner in the 250 class, but don’t count out Eli for mounting an impressive showing in the sun state letting everyone know he still has some beast left in him.
