Glendale Supercross qualifying notes

The track in Glendale is on the large size with rythm sections that are 400+ feet long which is around one and half football fields long. the lap times are in the 1:05 range compared to mid fourty seconds last week in Detroit. So more jumps and less laps this week will make racing look different.

News for this weekend in that Chase Sexton had a get off in practice and has a bruised hand. This will make the bones in his hand pretty sore and will likely have some affect on his speed.

Qualifying #1

The 250A group came out after the 450A group and put down some great times. RJ Hampshire just slightly edged Levi Kitchen for fastest time in qualifying one session. Jo Shimoda was in third place which is not surprising as Jo has had the speed those first four races but lacks a good start.

In the 450A qualifying group it was a game of whack a mole as it seemed like almost every lap around someone else was jumping up and grabbing the top spot. While things ended with Jett Lawrence at the top spot but it took him till the end of the session to jump up. Jason Anderson, Eli Tomac, and Ken Roczen make up the rest of the top 4 in the qualifying session with a very tight gap in time.

Qualifying #2

The second 450 qualifying session was pretty similar to the first one. Saw the same four atheletes competing for the top with Jason Anderson grabbing the fastest qualifier in Glendale. This is the fifteenth time in his career he was the fastest qualifier. It does appear that the hand is bothering Chase in qualifying or he is just taking it easy and saving for the evening.

The red plate guys were right towards the top fighting for fastest qualifying in the 250A group with Jordan Smith edging out Levi for the top spot. RJ Hampshire was a close third in overall qualifying on this long and technical track.
