2022 Byron North Central Region Area Qualifier

On the 7th of May 2022 riders from far and near gathered to see whether they have the right stuff. The turnout was strong and the competition was fierce as normal when it comes to vying for a ticket to the ranch. Mother nature was not on our side for this AQ as it rained on Saturday and remained wet for part of Sunday also. The mud made it hard for riders to keep clear vision and there was no shortage of tear-offs being ripped off. It also made it hard for the fans to follow their riders as everything just looked like mud for most of the day.

The wet ground and large group of riders made for challenging track conditions both days. The ruts were deeper than normal the breaking bumps were huge in the downhill sections. This helped to separate the riders in each class as those that could not handle the rough wet conditions had far more trouble.

The majority of the classes were heavily contested and each rider had to be on their best game to advance to the regional rounds. There were a lot of out-of-region riders that earned passes to the regionals. Would have loved to see more locals earn those passes, but the out-of-state competition was strong. They were looking to secure additional tickets or missed their chances in their own region. This is a very typical approach for many riders to qualify in at least a second region to make sure they get another chance in case of a bad showing or mechanical issue takes them out of the running.

B Class action

Those that placed in the top 9 spots would advance to the regionals. The moto class would be split into three different groups with the Vet and faster age-based classes attending the Vet Regional at Oakridge MX in Garwin, IA. The youth class from shaft drive to supermini would attend the Youth Regional in Tigerton, WI at Fantasy Moto. All other classes were headed to the Amateur Regional at MC Moto in Mt Carroll, IL.
