Byron Motosports Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier 2023

The weather promised to be slightly better than the previous week’s qualifier at Sunset Ridge but was still pretty cold with only a little bit of light rain on Sunday. This made for a pretty nice track all weekend but required riders and fans to bundle up to keep warm. The turnout for this weekend’s qualifier seemed much lower than the previous week, probably due to another poor weather forecast.

One of the big battles of the weekend was in the pro sport class between Cody Williams and Mitchell Zaremba with Williams taking the win in each of the pro sport classes. Willaims hails from Sycamore Illinois just a short drive from Byron and making the hometown crowd proud. There were very few crashes and nothing serious all weekend which is always good. Many of the other classes had some nice battles for the lead also and you can never go wrong with a 50cc shaft drive race to put smiles on the faces.

Another local Mason Hulsey had a strong showing taking home 2nd place in both the B classes and earning his way into the regional round. Entrants from as far away as the pacific northwest, California and Canada made the trip to race next to the nuclear plant. The ones that made the long trips placed very well and advanced to the regional.

Those that placed in the top 9 in each class will advance to the regional round for the north central region. The youth regional will be at Lincoln Trail in Casey Illinois and will be all classes supermini and smaller. The amateur regional will be at Spring Creek in Minnesota for all classes 125cc and above along with the Vet classes.
