MotoAmerica Superbikes at Road America 2023

With fresh new paved racing surface and beautiful weather the teams, racers, and fans could not have ordered a better action-packed weekend of racing. Motoamerica Superbike Racing was returning to Elkhart Lake Wisconsin and Road America for its annual visit to the appropriately named national park of speed. With the new surface in place and ready for these two-wheeled speed machines there was no doubt to be many new track records set in the different classes.

With a record three-day crowd of 41,000 spectators attending for the weekend, the five different classes put on some of the best racing all year for the fans at Road America.

Medallia Superbike Racing

The Medallia Superbike class is the premier racing class within Motoamerica and street motorcycle racing in the United States. These are large displacement and modified race bikes. Depending on the track and layout they are capable of speeds near 200 miles per hour and at Road America, they would be some of the fastest times of the season. There were 5 manufacturers competing for the top spot on the podium with BMW having a better than average chance with the long straightaways on the track layout.

Podium

  1. Josh Herrin (Ducati)

  2. PJ Jacobsen (BMW)

  3. Jake Gagne (Yamaha)

Steel Commander Stock 1000

The Stock 1000 class allows competitors to race 1000cc production-based machines to build their skills while looking to move to the Superbike Cup one day. There are some riders that will compete in both classes for periods of time before making the move full-time to the upper class. The weekend competition was just as exciting as the upper classes with a large field of competitors putting on a great show.

Podium

  1. Travis Wyman (BMW)

  2. Kaleb De Keyrel (BMW)

  3. Hayden Gillim (Suzuki)

Supersport Class Racing

The Supersport class is just a small step below the Superbike class with tomorrows rising stars competing within it. Supersport class was won by Xavi Fores making his perfect record winning his fifth straight win since coming to ride in MotoAmerica supersport series.

Podium

  1. Xavi Fores (Ducati)

  2. Stefano Mesa (Kawasaki)

  3. Tyler Scott (Suzuki)

Junior Cup Racing

The junior cup class is the entry-level of racing within MotoAmerica. This is the starting place for most young road racers that are pursuing a professional career and is done so on smaller production-based motorcycles. The racing is typically tight with large groups of rides in packs entering corners making for great entertainment for fans. Being less powered machines drafting is a big part of racing within the Junior Cup so you never know who is going to surge forward making passes down the straightaway or just before the finish line.

Podium

  1. Rossi Moor (KTM)

  2. Max VanDenBrouck (Kawasaki)

  3. Avery Dreher (Kawasaki)

King of the Baggers Racing

Saturday’s racing was tightly contested between the top two with a last-minute pass for the lead putting a Harley Davidson on the top of the podium for their hometown race. The racing on Sunday was not as close as Bobby Fong opened up an almost 6 second lead and left the rest of the field to battle for second place. The baggers class is a different vibe to the rest of racing during these weekends with large less nimble bikes that still reach speeds upwards of 160 miles per hour. But that deep sound and great racing makes it for one of our favorite classes.

Podium

  1. Bobby Fong (Indian)

  2. James Rispoli (Harley-Davidson)

  3. Kyle Wyman(Harley-Davidson)
