PBR Unleash the Beast 2024 Chicago
The Pro Bull Riders (PBR) event rolled into Chicago as part of the Unleash the Beast Tour on January 12/13 to a harsh winter welcome. The week of the event the snow total was approaching 20” of which 8” plus arriving on Friday making local travel treacherous yet alone dealing with air travel and airport delays. That did not stop Chicago from filling the Allstate Arena to near capacity to take in the excitement of athletes chasing the 8 second goal. As a local was impressed by the job the road crews did in getting the tollways clear and even the side streets close to Allstate Arena were in decent shape and it showed by the crowd.
Round 1
The first round took place on Friday evening with top 40 PBR riders that would attempt to score points by lasting the required 8 seconds. Compared to the St Louis round we covered it felt like a larger number of the riders executed successful 8 second rides to score points. But the announcer stated that the average seems to be around 55% normally. Needless to say the action was intense and had everyone on the edge of their seats excited about the show. The top performer would ben Daylon Swearingen aboard Midnight Magic for a score of 88.25. Swearing was late arriving to Chicago touching town with the event already underway. Grabbing a cab over to the arena and borrowing a bull rope from another rider he climbed aboard and put down an 88.25 score that would leave him in the top spot at the end of the night.
