This past weekend in Glendale, Arizona, at round 4 of the 2025 Supercross season, the air was sucked out of the lungs of most racing fans just after the start of the third race in the 450 class. Jett got a good start and was running towards the front of the pack when, on the first lap, when the pack was very tight, he looked a bit loose and dabbed his left leg, then shortly after, dabbed his right leg in the next corner. The second dab was far worse and caused the young star to immediately pull off the track, favoring the leg, and make a slow lap around the outside of the track before exiting the stadium and heading directly to the Alpinestars Medical Unit.
The initial shock of the fans and industry was this was not good and that we’ve surely seen the younger Lawrence just explode his knee and likely out for the season. He was spotted by others leaving the paddock on crutches but in ok spirits. The team manager from HRC Honda gave a statement Saturday evening that they were feeling more confident than they initially did but would not know until after an MRI on Monday. They had hopped it might only be a stinger as the knee felt tight from the early examination from the onsite medical team but would only know once imaging was done. Given that there was cautious optimism that he might be able to race next week in Tampa.
In a post on his Instagram below, Jett announces to the world that he has indeed torn his ACL and partially torn his meniscus. The doctors gave an initial recovery period of four months, which would be around the start of the Pro Motocross outdoor season. A few other riders have recovered from similar injuries in as little as three to four months, but others have needed longer periods. We will just have to wait to see when Jett can return, and hopefully, he does not come back too early and do further damage by rushing back. He is already qualified for the SMX Playoffs from his Anaheim 2 win, and if he needs to skip some early rounds of outdoors, he should do that and focus on defending his 450 SMX title.
